Honors Seminar Series I

Please join us in our first event in our video lecture series on the Paradox of Affluence: Choices, Challenges, and Consequences. Consumer advocate Ralph Nader will give a video lecture presentation on issues related to product safety, the environment, clean air, and health on Wednesday, October 28, 2009 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in LRC room 105 on the Menifee Valley Campus. The topic of his lecture is "Subordinating Corporate Commercialism to the Sovereignty of the People."

Political Science Instructor Eric Hass will facilitate a discussion immediately following the video lecture. This event is free and open to the public.
Ralph Nader’s efforts to raise public awareness of consumer problems influenced millions of citizens to become advocates for solutions. Organizations established by Nader-led groups were instrumental in enacting the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Consumer Product Safety Commission, and the Safe Drinking Water Act. In recent years Nader has been an independent candidate for President, pledging to work for the public interest by returning government to the citizens by addressing concerns such as health, energy sources and corporate welfare.

Holocaust Lecture

Dear Phi Theta Kappans,
Our chapter of Phi Theta Kappa and the MSJC Diversity Committee have invited Holocaust survivor David Faber to come to the San Jacinto Campus Theater to speak on Monday, October 19th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Mr. Faber came to the Menifee campus last semester and gave a riveting and heart-breaking account of his life. This was an extremely well-attended event and we are fortunate that Mr. Faber has agreed to return to our college to give the MSJC community a second opportunity to hear him speak.

We anticipate this will be a popular event so we encourage you to arrive early. Seating is limited and will be first come first served. The lecture is free and open to the public. We hope you can make it!

Sincerely,
The Officers and Advisors of the Beta Delta Omega Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa
